Biography
Born in 1960 in Paris, young Pascal Savoye has a feeling for music.
He grows up listening to great jazz artists: NAT KING COLE, Chet BAKER, Lionel HAMPTON, Wes MONTGOMERY, Miles DAVIS, etc...
When he is 12 years old, Pascal discovers guitar during a children holiday camp.
A supervisor teaches him guitar basics during two months.
Back home Pascal keeps on playing his mother's guitar (a left handed instrument). Himself being right handed, he will soon have to start all over again with a right handed guitar.
At 14 years old, Pascal set up his first band, "REVEIL MATIN" ("Alarm Clock") with his neighbour and a few friends. Very much influenced by Jazz, Blues, Soul and Funk Music, the band plays cover tunes and standards. In 1983, Pascal discovers UZEB, a milestone.
« Years went by and my interest in bass guitar increased as I was listening more and more to top bass players such as Stanley CLARKE, Abraham LABORIEL, Marcus MILLER, Gary WILLIS, Alain CARON, Jaco PASTORIUS and Buster WILLIAMS, just to name a few. »
Truely fascinated by Jazz, Pascal develops a passion for Blue Note and GRP labels, among others...
« When Paul and I met, this worked as a catalyst, I eventually got the opportunity to express myself playing a music which pays a tribute to Jazz.
Back then, I was playing guitar. Coming across difficulties finding a bass player with required skills and motivation, I decided to purchase a second hand Fender Jazz bass and a Peavey amplifier. »
The following episode is a great adventure filled with friendship, laughter and complicity with the members of IGNEM.
Pascal plays on an "F" bass (his favourite bassist's - Alain Caron - brand) EBS amp and effects, used by one of his favourite musicians, Marcus MILLER.
"I firmly believe Music should message love and respect not hatred and destruction" says Pascal. |
